    ARBPO Pressure Relief Device

     

    ARBPO type Buckling Pin Pressure Relief Device, a patent product recently developed by SMDERI, is a kind of over pressure protection device to be used in petrochemical industries, offshore platforms and etc., which is a type of non-reclosing pressure relief device.

     

    I Work principle

    The static pressure or pressure drop at the valve inlet drives the pressure sustained buckling pin to bend and trigger the valve open promptly in order to release the system pressure.

    Initial status: The valve disk contacts the valve seat and they are sealed with a seal. The buckling pin is installed between the valve cap and valve rod. The buckling pin exerts a force to the valve rod in return, which is transferred to the valve disc and strengthens the sealing accordingly.

    Normal operation status: The upstream medium gas flows into the sealed system. When the gas pressure is less than the set pressure, so the load on the pin transferred through the rod is less than the critical load for buckling. Therefore, the buckling pin remains straight and the disk & the seat are still tightly sealed. The valve is now sealed and stable.

    Relief status: As the medium gas pressure increases and reaches the set value, the load exerted on the pin through the valve rod approaches the critical load. As long as it reaches the yield point of the buckling pin, the pin buckles in milliseconds, and thus reduces the length in valve rod direction significantly. Meanwhile the valve disc leaves the valve seat quickly and the valve opens. Once the valve is open, the medium inlet and outlet are connected and the high pressure media gas is released instantaneously.

    When the valve opens, the operator can determine whether the pressure relief takes place or not by observing the valve appearance; or the position switch mounted to corresponding position transmits the pressure relief signal to the remote control room and informs the operator about the valve position.
